Search for Peace #2

For Solo Guitar and Voice

By Jonathan Godfrey and Annie Addington

The original piece, Search for Peace #1, had inherent within it the call for collaboration, with an offering of all the stems to anyone who could transform the piece and keep it alive. Dr. Jonathan Godfrey heeded this call and requested to do a Solo Guitar with Voice. https://www.artists4peace.org/music-1/the-search-for-peace-project is the link to the original version. The call is being repeated With McCoy Tyner’s Search for Peace as an inspiration, our idea is to have an interactive piece of music, reaching out to other musicians over the world, to participate with the ability to use the individual tracks as a basis for their recording, so they can create their own version of Search for Peace. For our first presentation, Jamil Ghattas has prepared the intro, the piano, the bass and the sax. David Picton has provided the drum track. François de Lima of Brazil has created the trombone solo. I have written lyrics and sing them in place of the sax of the original track. There are two solo sections. One of them is with François de Lima on trombone! We will call this one Search for Peace #1. We can't wait to hear #2, #3, and on and on.

So, now , what can YOU do with these tracks? What do YOU play? Sing? Can’t wait to hear your ideas! Peace! Collaborate

Dr. Jonathan Godfrey is a guitarist, composer, producer, and arranger whose works and playing have been described as “invitingly poetic” by the Boston Globe. A resident of Florida's Suncoast since 2012, his reputation for effortlessly weaving between classical, jazz, and commercial music styles has led him to be one of the area's most in-demand concert artists and session musicians. He has been a soloist with The Florida Orchestra, members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Choral Artists of Sarasota, among numerous other regional professional ensembles. Artists he has shared the stage with include Bernadette Peters, Stephen Flaherty, Debbie Gravitte, Michael Lynche, and Byron Stripling. Hailed as “The Suncoast’s power couple in music,” (Suncoast Cultural Club), he has performed extensively with his wife soprano Jenny Kim-Godfrey as Corda Voce, a guitar and voice duo highlighting cabaret, jazz, and popular music alongside classical repertoire.
