Omniambient Meditation Sessions

By Ryan Hurtgen

It is with curiosity and grit that I approach art. Making art is a process of channeling intuition and putting it into form - turning inward on a feeling, an intuitive voice, and taking that which was unknown before and giving it life so others can relate with it. Art is something at the forefront of the collective subconscious. When people experience it, light bulbs go off. I studied history and music, but also engineering and yoga. Thus my approach to creating is based in all of these, namely - sound, architecture, and health. I am very drawn to nature and the artistic experiences that are available to us in the world around us. I love to explore the sounds of nature and create form around what already exists there. I would like to continue collaborating in building listening spaces; in parks, cities, hospitals, forests - places for meditation and contemplation for peace and serenity in the world - 'Listening Spaces' that accent the world as it is - the birds, the plants, the bees and the energy already present in nature. I would like to continue collaborating in the health sciences which seek to use music and sound in creative ways to interconnect the arts of medicine and patient experience. I maintain a curiosity for art and collaborations, being wide open to the possibilities of what's next and where this will go.

About the Artist

Ryan Hurtgen

Ryan Hurtgen is a composer, singer-songwriter and inventor in the development of sonic instruments for new types of musical expression and listening experiences. His instrument, the Samalan, creates vast arrays of harmonics that allow for deep feeling states, providing a window for self-discovery through acoustics. In 2019, Ryan played the Samalan in three sonic meditations at the World Government Summit in Dubai in collaboration with a team of artists who explore sound as an avenue to meditation and health. He has taken his study of Georgian polyphonic singing to the Republic of Georgia to sing with the Didgori Men’s Ensemble of Tblisi. He is the lead singer-songwriter of acclaimed progressive rock albums with the band Perfect Beings. He is currently focusing on creating meditation albums that explore harmonic soundscapes and natural environments for relaxation through his channel OmniAmbient.
