Hierro

Hierro chronicles the experience of a long stay on an island. Each static durational shot offers an impression of the time spent facing out to sea, observing the natural landscape. The viewer is invited to look, listen and explore the relationship between time and space.


About the Artist

Eva Claus (Belgium) is working primarily with 16mm film. Educated in photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent, Belgium and at the Friedl Kubelka School for independent film in Vienna, Austria. Her work was shown at Light Field, San Francisco (US, 2020); 1666 Festival, São Paulo (BR, 2019); Rencontres International Paris/Berlin (Haus der Kulturen der Welt 2019); Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival (TR, 2018); Exchange Gallery, Pennsylvania (US, 2018); Traverse Vidéo, Toulouse (FR, 2017); Moscow International Film Festival (2017); International Film Festival Rotterdam (Deep Focus, 2017) among others. Eva Claus is a member of Monokino, the nomadic film platform in Ostend, Belgium (https://monokino.org/en) and member of the LaBo BxL the analog film lab in the city of Brussels (http://www.filmlabs.org/index.php/labs/labobxl/) Claus works parallel to her artistic practice as a cinematographer and film editor. Eva currently lives and works in Brussels.
